So what is GoogaLoom and how will it make my life easier?

GoogaLoom is a plugin for RapidWeaver v3.6.7 and higher. Simply put, GoogaLoom pages allow you to setup nice catalog style pages containing product images, descriptions and pricing. GoogaLoom is powered by Google Checkout, so visitors to your site can add these products to a Google checkout cart and pay you for your items. GoogaLoom is not a cart itself, rather, it's a tool to allow you to use RapidWeaver to design nice looking product pages.

So what do I need to get started?

You'll need Rapidweaver 3.6.7 or higher. You'll also need a GoogleCheckout account to accept payments. If you don't have a GoogleCheckout account, sign up at: http://checkout.google.com/.

Does GoogleCheckout currently have any restrictions?

Yes, Google currently has the following requirements:
A) You must be a merchant based in the US or UK.
B) You must have a bank account in one of those two countries.

Additionally, some items are prohibited for sale with Google Checkout, see: http://checkout.google.com/seller/content_policies.html

How much will this cost me What's the monthly fee?

The GoogaLoom is a one-time purchase from YabDab software. GoogleCheckout charges a discount fee as do all credit card processors - you can find Google's current discount rate on their site (as of 10/2/08, it's a .20 cent per transaction fee + 2% of the total sale)

I sell products with options - can I specify price variations for certain options?

Yes, you can create options for a product and assign a separate price to each option

Can I manage inventory with GoogaLoom / Google Checkout?

No, it is not possible to manage inventory or have products become unavailable after a given quantity is sold. GoogaLoom pages are static pages, when a product is no longer available, you'd need to edit your products within RapidWeaver and re-publish.

How do I create Product Categories and Subcategories?

Creating categories is as simple as creating new pages within Rapidweaver. For Example, if you let's say we want to sell books. We want to first divide things up by cover - hardback and softcover. Add two new Styled Text pages to your site. Name one Hardcover and the next Softback. Making your main category page a Styled Text page gives you freeform "landing page" that you can use as an intro page to describe the types of products in this category or provide sample images. Now make a new page nested under Hardcover called First Editions - choose GoogaLoom as the page type. Make another one called LeatherBound - this will be a GoogaLoom page also. These two pages will be the pages where you add products. Essentially you've just used Rapidweaver pages to create Main Product Categories, and then place products in specific subcategories.

How can I keep things uniform so that all my products look the same?

To simplify the process of making your product presentation uniform we've added a feature under the Images tab in the GoogaLoom Page Inspector - once you get your image looking as desired, click the Use This Style For All Products button to apply the settings you've specified to all items.

Can I use any RapidWeaver theme with GoogaLoom?

GoogaLoom supports most RapidWeaver 3.5 and higher themes. If you are using a 3.5 theme, the theme must support the RapidWeaver 3.5 theme tag of . If you're not sure, contact your theme developer and see if they've upgraded the theme for v3.6 compatibility. Most 3.6 and 4.0 themes will work just fine.

Can I use Coupons with GoogaLoom?

Yes, you can create Google Checkout coupons in your seller account that sellers can use when they checkout.

How about sales tax? I have specific needs for different products/regions?

GoogaLoom will allow you to enter a tax amount to be charged on items (it needs to be entered as the actual, calculated amount, not a percent), or, if you are required to collect sales tax in multiple regions, leave the tax amount at $0.00 in GoogaLoom and login to your Google Checkout account, go to Settings and under the Tax Setup tab, enter the states you charge tax in and their corresponding rates.
